How are we doing with medical student welfare?

If one Victorian medical student’s experience published online in MJA InSight is anything to go on then the answer has to be “not very well”. The student describes consistent belittling that is tolerated in the clinical context. Understandably a toll on her / his mental health is reported. And a questioning of whether a medical career is one that is worth pursuing. This is their stated goal:

“I want to be a fulfilled, caring and respectful person, always. I want to be able to enjoy the company of my colleagues at work and remain unjaded until the day I retire.”

Is this an aspiration too meaty for the medical profession?
